Royal Wedding – What to Expect from the Big Day!

10/05/2018

Royal Wedding

Royal Britannia! We have our bunting ready, and the fizz is on ice. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day has nearly arrived. On Saturday 19th May, they will get married at Windsor Castle in front of their family and friends, and another 1000 or so other lucky people from across the country. If like us, you haven’t received your invite yet, then perhaps watching the event on TV is as close as we can expect to get! All the handmade invitations have been printed and posted weeks ago. The only way you might see the newlywed couple in person is by joining the huge numbers of public expected to line the streets of Windsor for the carriage procession.

So, what can you expect to see on the day?

Britain does not do royal weddings lightly, it is a significant occasion which gets broadcast to the world. This means we pull out all the stops and show the globe exactly what it is to be British. It won’t quite be the same magnitude as Prince William and Kate’s wedding in 2011 because Harry is now 6th in line to the throne, with the recent birth of Prince Louis, so it is unlikely he will ever be our King. There will still be horses pulling spotless carriages, and they will be joined by the impeccable household cavalry. Expect to see an abundance of Union Jacks and American flags, given that Meghan is from the States. Another royal wedding favourite is bunting throughout streets, in gardens and on buildings. The gardens at Windsor Castle will look remarkable, and it is rumoured that the wedding flower selection will consist of white garden roses, peonies and foxgloves from the Crown Estate and Windsor Park.

Whether you will spend your day watching the royal wedding, or if you will just be waiting for the FA Cup Final later in the day, the 19th May 2018 will be one for the history books. The day a member of the royal family marries an American actress and either the blue of Chelsea or red of Manchester United lift the FA Cup trophy.

Everyone at Britannia Windows would like to wish Prince Harry and Meghan a wonderful and happy life together. After all, we do share a name with the famous Royal Yacht Britannia! Fingers crossed the British weather is kind and is a repeat of the Early May Bank Holiday we enjoyed.
